Day porter services for Metro Detroit buildings

Day porter services place a cleaner inside your Metro Detroit building while your business is open. They look in restrooms, clean up spills, take out trash and tidy up the lobby and glass while people arrive and depart. RCO Cleaning maps out the porter's route from a complimentary walkthrough. Our managers check day porters' work throughout Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties. Call us at (248) 849-0000.

What does a day porter do?

Day porters are cleaners who work during business hours. They clean up after everybody: the lobby glass from the morning rush, restrooms after lunch, the kitchen after a catered meeting, slush people tracked in from the parking lot in January. A night crew wouldn't be able to get at any of that until the place was empty.

RCO designs porter service around a walkthrough. We inspect your entrances, restrooms, elevators, kitchens and common areas. We ask you when your traffic patterns peak. Then we determine the porter's rounds: how often restrooms are restocked and inspected, how frequently the lobby and entrance glass gets a wipe-down, when the kitchen is reset and when the trash is taken out. Those rounds are built into the cleaning schedule we design for your building.

Porters answer requests as well. Your office manager or front desk can page them when there is a spill, a conference room that needs to be reset or a restroom that needs attention. In multi-tenant buildings and shopping centers that stay open all day, a porter will maintain common areas for all tenants evenly.

A day porter maintains what RCO cleans overnight: the night crew does the heavy lifting, and the porter keeps it up. RCO's managers inspect both, so the standard is consistent day and night, and in larger buildings on contract, daily on-site management means there's an RCO manager in the building each day.

  • Someone on site

Your porter works whenever you need them to in your building. So if you spill something at 11 a.m. it's not going to sit there until the night crew comes by.

  • Rounds you set

Restroom routines, lobby passes and kitchen resets are routed and timed to the unique way your building operates.

  • Restroom checks and restocking

Fixtures cleaned, counters dried, floors spot mopped, and paper, soap and liners replenished on a set round.

  • Lobby and entrances

Entrance glass, doors and lobby surfaces cleaned of fingerprints, walk-off mats vacuumed.

  • Spills and messes

Spills cleaned up, and tracked-in water and salt and dropped food picked up as they occur. Wet-floor signs put out.

  • Kitchens and break rooms

Counters cleaned off, sinks cleared, tables wiped down and trash taken out after the busiest hours.

  • Trash and recycling

Bins in high-traffic areas emptied before they overflow.

  • Conference room resets

Tables wiped, chairs straightened, and leftover food and cups cleared between meetings.

  • Elevators and high-touch surfaces

Buttons, rails, handles and push plates are wiped regularly throughout the day when they are most likely to be touched.

  • Outside the front door

Entrance sidewalks and smoking areas checked for litter, only when included in the agreed-upon scope.

How porter rounds are typically timed

This is a typical routine. Your walkthrough decides the actual one for your building.

  1. 1Morning

Typically the lobby, entrance glass and bathrooms get checked as people arrive, with a pass through the elevators.

  2. 2Midday

Restrooms and kitchens are serviced during their peak hour. Restocking and trash pulls after lunch.

  3. 3Afternoon

Conference rooms, common areas and entrances receive one more wipe-down, and supplies are restocked as needed for the remainder of the day.

  4. 4As needed

Spills, tracked-in snow and salt, and requests from your front desk are taken care of between rounds.

Signs your building needs a day porter

  • Restrooms look rough by early afternoon
  • Staff are wiping up spills and taking out trash themselves
  • Your lobby's appearance at 2 p.m. is different than it was at 8 a.m.
  • Meeting rooms are left messy between bookings
  • Snow, slush and salt are tracked across your entrance all winter

Day porter service questions

Don’t see yours? Call 248-849-0000 and ask the people who will clean your building.

What is the difference between a day porter and janitorial service?

Janitorial cleaning occurs on a schedule, typically after hours and throughout the entire building. Day porters work during business hours and take care of it as they go: restrooms, lobbies, spills and requests. Many facilities utilize both.

What hours does a porter work?

When you want them. Certain buildings want a porter during peak traffic times. Others want porters for the entire business day. We suggest coverage after your walkthrough based on your traffic needs.

Can we give the porter tasks during the day?

Yes, within the agreed-upon cleaning scope. Your front desk agent or office manager can send the porter to spills or a room reset. If something outside of the scope is requested, we discuss it with a manager first, so expectations stay clear.

Does a porter replace nightly cleaning?

Typically, no. A porter dusts and tidies throughout the day. However, full vacuuming, mopping and detailed restroom cleaning are more effectively completed when nobody is in the building. Daytime cleaning can accomplish both in some smaller buildings, and we'll be honest with you if that's the case for yours.

How much does day porter service cost?

It really depends on your building and your work needs: the floors the porter services and how many hours you require. All RCO work is quoted from a free walkthrough and you get the estimate back within 24 hours of the walkthrough.
