Commercial disinfection services for Metro Detroit workplaces

Commercial disinfection services begin with cleaning: in Metro Detroit businesses, door knobs, elevator panels, shared desks and restroom fixtures get wiped down before being treated with EPA-registered disinfectants, applied precisely as their labels instruct. RCO Cleaning can add disinfection to your regular cleaning schedule or schedule additional disinfection visits across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties. Call (248) 849-0000.

How is disinfecting different from cleaning and sanitizing?

Cleaning removes dirt, grease and many germs from a surface. Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on a surface. Disinfecting kills the germs listed on the product label. Order matters: a disinfectant can't kill germs it can't touch, and a layer of soil keeps it from touching them. So, we clean first and disinfect second.

All disinfectants sold in the United States are registered by the EPA. Think of the label as your instruction manual: it tells you what surfaces the product can be used on, which germs it is registered to kill and for how long the surface must remain visibly wet (contact or dwell time). If you wipe a disinfectant off too soon, it may not perform as claimed on its label. RCO crews are trained to adhere to the label every time.

Disinfection becomes part of your cleaning program: which surfaces are high-touch in your building, how frequently they should be treated and what products to use. Whether you prefer products from EPA's List N, the agency's compilation of disinfectants that can be used against the virus that causes COVID-19, or products suited to a medical office or a food-service area, we'll customize your program at the walkthrough. Schools also follow clean-then-disinfect sequencing, as detailed in our school disinfection guide.

Disinfection can be a nightly service with routine cleaning, a daytime service with a day porter or an additional visit following illness throughout a facility. It does not come with kill rate guarantees or a germ-free promise from RCO. Our crews simply use the appropriate products, properly applied to the surfaces that count.

  • Label directions followed

Each product is used on the surfaces its label lists and allowed to remain wet for the entire contact time directed on the label.

  • Focused on high-touch points

Where do people's hands touch? That's where we disinfect: handles, rails, buttons, faucets, shared equipment and counters.

What do commercial disinfection services include?

  • High-touch survey

During our walkthrough we identify the surfaces that people touch most in your building, including door hardware and shared equipment.

  • Cleaning before disinfecting

Surfaces are always cleaned to remove soil first. This allows the disinfectant to contact the surface.

  • EPA-registered products

EPA registered disinfectants, appropriate for your surfaces and used only as the label directs.

  • Full contact time

Treated surfaces remain wet for the contact time stated on the label before wiping or drying.

  • Restrooms and break rooms

Fixtures, faucets, dispensers, counters, appliance handles and tables disinfected with each visit.

  • Shared spaces and equipment

Conference tables, shared desks, phones, printer panels, elevator buttons and handrails.

  • Extra visits after illness

A one-time or added visit, done overnight or on a weekend after illness has gone around your office.

  • Product information

You know what products are used in your building so you can read the labels yourself.

How often high-touch surfaces are typically disinfected

This is a typical routine. Your walkthrough decides the actual one for your building.

  1. 1Every cleaning visit

Restroom fixtures, door hardware, break room surfaces and elevator buttons are typically disinfected every time the building is cleaned.

  2. 2During the day

Busy lobbies, restrooms and shared spaces often get daytime passes from a day porter.

  3. 3Weekly

Less frequently touched shared surfaces like conference phones, chair arms and copier panels are typically disinfected once a week.

  4. 4As needed

Extra visits following an illness at work, prior to reopening or at your request.

Signs your building needs a disinfection plan

  • Several people in the office have been out sick at once
  • Shared desks, hot-desking or shared equipment
  • Visitors, patients or customers come through all day
  • Nobody knows which products your cleaners use
  • Disinfectant is sprayed and wiped off right away

Disinfection and sanitizing questions

Don’t see yours? Call 248-849-0000 and ask the people who will clean your building.

Who should we hire to disinfect our office or building?

Hire a cleaner that disinfects properly: one that cleans before it disinfects, that uses EPA registered products exactly how their labels instruct and that is willing to tell you what they are putting on your surfaces. At RCO Cleaning, our crews know contact times for each disinfectant and can disinfect your facility overnight or on weekends across Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties. Schedule yours by calling (248) 849-0000.

Can you guarantee our building will be germ-free?

Honestly, no one can do that. Someone will touch those surfaces again minutes after you finish. What we can do is target the proper surfaces to clean and disinfect using EPA-registered products as directed by their labels and create a schedule based on how your building operates.

Which products do you use?

EPA-registered disinfectants appropriate for your surfaces and environment. If you have specific products you want from EPA's List N, or your company already has approved products, just let us know during the walkthrough and we will customize the plan to include them.

Someone in our office is sick. What should we do?

Refer to your company procedures and local health department for guidance on the individual. For the building, contact us at (248) 849-0000 to arrange for a supplemental cleaning and disinfection visit. This can be completed overnight or on a weekend.

Do people need to leave while you disinfect?

Typically no, for general disinfecting. It's usually done after hours, or with products applied as labeled. If the label of a product requires the area to be unoccupied or ventilated, we schedule that work for when the area is vacant.

How is disinfection priced?

It's priced as part of your scope, based on your areas and frequency of cleaning. The walkthrough is at no charge and you will receive a quote within 24 hours of the walkthrough.
