Commercial tile and grout cleaning for Metro Detroit restrooms, kitchens and lobbies

Commercial tile and grout cleaning lightens stained grout lines in Metro Detroit buildings back toward their original color. How do professionals clean tile and grout floors?

Tile and grout floors are cleaned in three steps by professionals. First crews pretreat the floor with a cleaner designed to cut the type of soil they are trying to remove: grease, mineral scale or urine. Next they agitate the grout lines with brushes and floor machines, then extract the released soil so it cannot remain on the floor or dry back into the grout. Shower areas and tiled walls of gym and fitness center locker rooms receive similar treatment.

Grout is porous. Every time you mop your tile floor some of that dirty water gets pushed into the grout lines. Over time they start to turn dark. Urine soaks into the grout lines around toilets and urinals in restrooms. Grease and food soil collect in grout in restaurant kitchens. Salt and road grime from Michigan winters become embedded into grout in lobbies. Sooner or later no amount of mopping will return that original color.

RCO's advanced equipment allows crews to use fewer chemicals while effectively cleaning the grout. Techniques are selected based on the tile and grout, as some solutions that clean ceramic tile may damage natural stone, and aged grout can be more brittle than you might think.

Once grout is clean, routine cleaning keeps it clean longer. RCO incorporates periodic scrubbing into your building's cleaning program so your grout doesn't regress to its original state. Cracked grout, missing grout, or waterlogged floors resulting from a leak require repair or restoration. We will let you know.

  • Grout scrubbed and extracted

Scrub brushes and machines are used on grout. The dirty solution is picked up so it cannot soak back in.

  • Odor at the source

In bathrooms, the grout around urinals and toilets is a common source of odor-causing residue. Cleaning the grout often resolves the odor.

Tile and grout cleaning questions

Don’t see yours? Call 248-849-0000 and ask the people who will clean your building.

Is tile and grout cleaning ever free?

Yes, for larger buildings on contract when RCO has an on-site team. Complimentary tile and grout cleaning is one of our Complimentary Services: we determine if your building qualifies, and what that includes, at the free walkthrough and outline it in your quote.

Can dark grout really be cleaned back to its color?

Often it can get very close, especially on floors that have never been scrubbed. Older stained grout or grout that has had a dye bleed can lighten up but may not completely return to its original color. We will let you know what to expect at your walkthrough.

Should grout be sealed after cleaning?

Sealing can help some grout resist new stains. If it's worth it depends on the grout, the room and the traffic pattern, which we will discuss at the walkthrough.

How often should restroom tile and grout be deep cleaned?

High traffic restrooms typically require machine scrubbing once a week and deep grout cleaning once a month or quarter. Lower traffic restrooms can go longer. We set the frequency in your cleaning schedule after we see the room.

Do you clean commercial kitchen floors?

Yes. Kitchen quarry tile and grout traps grease from cooking that is sloshed around when mopping. Grease on the floor means slippery floors. Scheduled degreasing and scrubbing keep the floor cleaner.

How is tile and grout cleaning priced?

Based on the square feet of tile, the condition of the tile and how frequently it is cleaned. The walkthrough is free. Your quote is given within 24 hours of the walkthrough.
